Timnath, a small agricultural/farming community southeast of Fort Collins, was established in 1882. It is situated about half a mile east of I-25 at Harmony Road, on a small bluff east of the Cache la Poudre River. The surrounding farmlands have been primarily used for cultivating potatoes, alfalfa, corn, sugar beets, and raising cattle. With a proactive approach, the city government aims to preserve Timnath's identity as it experiences rapid growth. The population of Timnath increased by 180% between 2000 and 2010, and an additional 85% between 2010 and 2012. New neighborhoods have sprung up around the town, including one with an 18-hole golf course that serves as the home course for the Colorado State University golf team. The community also has a second elementary school.
