Bellevue is located in Larimer County and is part of the greater Fort Collins metropolitan area. Its location near Fort Collins allows residents to access the amenities and services of a larger city while still enjoying the charm of a smaller community. The town itself consists of little more than a post office, a school and a church along the stunning Cache La Poudre-North Park scenic byway. This 101-mile road peaks at 10,276-foot Cameron Pass and passes rural North Park, a habitat for deer, elk, moose, black bears and mountain lions. The byway winds through the Cache la Poudre River canyon, once a corridor used by both Native Americans and explorers.

Bellvue Information

Today, kayakers and anglers pursue their respective sports along the Poudre, Colorado's only federally designated National Wild and Scenic River. From its headwaters east of Greeley, the river descends 7,000 feet, providing some of the best whitewater rafting in Colorado. Lory State Park is an outdoor lover's paradise, with 20-plus miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails serving stellar mountain views, picnic facilities, and ample opportunities for fishing. Nearby wetlands in the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge showcase first-rate views of migratory waterfowl against a splendid Rocky Mountain backdrop.

In 1858, the first white settler, Antoine Janis, arrived in northern Colorado's valley. Jacob Flowers came to the area in 1873, establishing a homestead and founding the town of Bellevue. He catered to the Union Pacific Railroad's interests, setting up a store, saloon, and amenities for workers. His sandstone building became the Bellvue Post Office, later a Grange meeting place. Flowers also created a track and bandstand for community events. Agriculture plays a role, as well as tourism, due to the area's natural beauty and proximity to recreational sites. Commuting to Fort Collins for work is also common. The proximity to Fort Collins offers residents and visitors a range of activities. Residents of Bellvue go to Fort Collins for schools, Healthcare, and shopping.
